A Website is Useless Printed Out
printwebsite.neocities.org
I bet you're quite curious about where the making and seeing pages lead. But you can't see that. Or even where this link goes. It's something really cool, by the way. Eventually, the contents of this page will be cut off in the print out you have and you won't be able to see what is below that either. You could probably find the link to this website. It may even be included on the printout you have of this website. You could enter it into your browser and get all of these questions answered. But then you'd have to leave the "real world" and enter the digital world.
Did I betray you for making you do so?
I don't think I did. But I think you might feel that way, and I think you would be entirely fair in feeling so. You might think this printout was clickbait. Maybe it was a betrayal to a mission to stay offline. Or perhaps, it got in the way of spending time with art. Am I not art? Even if you don't think so, I do have utility. Especially under the making and seeing tabs. You just can't see that right now.
What is this website?
This website was built to help people to feel more in charge of their internet usage habits. It was made to share and highlight the thriving indie web scene. Its goal is to show people that the internet can be just as real as the physical pieces of art that surround you and that we are not stuck in the corporate realms of the same 5 social media websites for our usage. It hopes to show us that there is an a space between the creative "real world" and consumptive "online world". Under the making tab, you can find resources about how to make and share your own website. These resources start from text based website making such as this current one into websites that are entirely abstract pieces of art. The seeing tab shares resources about how to find and discover other websites on the indie web. It is all way more accessible to do so than you may think. You may feel you have no technical inclination, but believe me when I say this is way less tech-y and way more creative than you think. Taking agency over your internet usage habits begins here.
